View upcoming Wilderness EMT Intermediate/Accelerated courses.

Summary:

This is a full DOT Emergency Medical Technician I-85 (EMT-I/85) program followed by a WEMT-I/85 course. The training will satisfy eligibility requirements for the National Registry, State and WEMT-I certification. Training will take place daily, including weekends for two weeks.

Description:

Wilderness Medicine
Wilerness Medicine differs significantly from standard Red Cross courses and other programs that are oriented toward the urban environment. This course teaches what to do with a medical emergency when help is miles away and calling 911 isn’t an option. We prepare students for emergency situations that involve prolonged patient care, severe environments and improvised equipment.

Class Format
This course is 70 hours classroom and 32 hours clinical time over 14 days. On most days class will run from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Mornings will begin with quizzes and case presentations from students who had hospital rotations on the previous day. The rest of the morning will be devoted to lectures. Afternoons are devoted to practical hands-on sessions and video taped simulations. Expect 2-3 emergency rescue simulations with made-up victims and stage blood that will be video taped for enhanced learning. Evenings are reserved for case studies, clinical rotations, and assignments.
